Touch Monitor Operation

Jetpack's primary control interface is its ultra-bright 7" touchscreen monitor, developed in collaboration with SmallHD. The touchscreen display provides a centralized workspace for configuring encoding settings, managing connectivity settings, and monitoring live streams in real time.

In addition to standard Jetpack controls, the monitor integrates SmallHD's PageOS 6, giving you access to a full suite of professional monitoring tools, including:

  • Focus and Exposure Aids: Peaking, False Color, and Zebra patterns to ensure accurate camera setup.
  • Scopes: Waveform, Vectorscope, and Histogram for precise signal evaluation.
  • HDR/SDR Monitoring: Configurable monitoring modes to match production workflows.
  • Customizable Pages: Create multiple pages with different layouts and toolsets for rapid switching between tasks.

In addition to SmallHD's PageOS 6 feature set, Jetpack includes a range of custom-built Teradek tools for stream management. These tools are designed to simplify real-time monitoring of encoding parameters, video inputs, and network performance.

You can add these tools to any page on the touchscreen monitor:

  1. Tap the screen to open the tools menu.
  2. Tap ADD NEW TOOL (1) from the pop-up menu.
  3. Navigate to the Teradek section to access Jetpack-specific tools.
  4. To access the full settings menu, tap the screen and hit the Settings 'gear' icon (2) on the right side of the screen.
  5. Choose the desired tool.
  • Surround View Status Display - Always visible above and below the video window, the status bar provides quick reference information, including:
    • Core account and stream connection status
    • Network interface activity
    • Current video bitrate
    • Audio level meters
  • Live/Return Video/Playback Controls - The buttons along the bottom-left corner of the screen let you switch between:
    • Live Video – View your active video input.
    • Return Video – Monitor a return feed (see [link placeholder]).
    • Playback – Review locally stored recordings.
  • Encoder Tool - Displays a real-time graph of your video bitrate. From this tool, you can also access quick encoder settings for adjusting common configurations.
  • Connections Tool - Shows bitrate and status for each connected network interface. Tool settings allow you to enable or disable individual modems.
  • StreamTool - Provides controls to start or stop your stream, along with real-time streaming statistics.

User Buttons
The left side of the monitor has four configurable user buttons. These can be assigned to many different monitor functions, including shortcuts to various pages, quick access to the settings menu or tools, or as a toggle for settings like backlight.

To configure the button functionality, long-press any of the buttons to bring up the settings. Select the button you want to edit on the left, and assign one of the available Shortcuts, Tools, or Config options to the button.

PageOS operation
The touchscreen monitor runs on PageOS. See SmallHD's Knowledge base https://guide.smallhd.com/m/118985

Jetpack not only monitors video from a connected camera or other source but also ingests and decodes a return video feed from Core. You set up this feature through Jetpack’s web user interface. After configuration, you can switch between live and return video by tapping the buttons at the bottom of the screen. This section assumes you already have a Core account with streams configured. Please see our Connecting device to Hyperion or Helios on Core section.

Configuration

  1. Open up Jetpack's web UI.
  2. Navigate to the Return Video page.
  3. In Core, navigate to your encoder’s inbound stream, then open the Outputs section (located below the thumbnail preview) to find a stream to pull. MPEG Transport Stream via TCP Pull and SRT are the most common protocols for pulling video from Core.
  1. Note the stream URL provided by Core. The format will be:
  2. Return to Jetpack's web UI and configure the following:
    • For MPEG-TS:
      • Set Mode to MPEG Transport Stream.
      • Set Protocol to TCP Pull.
      • Enter the Core-provided IP address into Server Host (IP) and the port into Server Port.
    • For SRT:
      • Set Mode to Secure Reliable Transport (SRT).
      • Set Connection Type to Caller.
      • Enter the Core-provided IP address into Host (IP) and the port into Port.
  3. Click Save.
  4. On your monitor, tap Return Video to view the cloud stream. Tap Input to switch back to live video.

Recording Playback

Use Jetpack’s touch monitor to play back recorded files stored on an SD card or USB drive connected to the unit. Access playback by tapping the View Recordings button located at the bottom center of the monitor’s surround view. This allows you to review, navigate, and manage clips directly from the monitor without needing an external device.

With Playback mode active, the buttons at the bottom of the screen switch to the following playback controls:

  • Clip progress/navigation - The blue progress bar indicates the current playback position. Drag the bar to scrub forward or backward through the clip.
  • x - Return to live input
  • Rewind - Start the clip from the beginning
  • 30-second and 5-second rewind - Step backward through the recorded file.
