Bolt 4K LT Camera Control Quick Start Guide

Owners of SmallHD Smart 7 monitors and Teradek Bolt 4K LT Transmitters and Receivers can now unlock Wireless Camera Control. Teradek’s Wireless Camera Control Starter Kit works with your products to create a cable-free setup, allowing you to control a variety of cameras at up to 5,000 feet. Wireless Camera Control is compatible with ARRI Alexa Mini, ARRI Alexa Mini LF, ARRI Amira, RED KOMODO, RED V-RAPTOR, and RED DSMC2 cameras.

ACTIVATE CAMERA CONTROL LICENSE

Before you proceed, you must first purchase a Camera Control license for your camera from smallHD.com, then install it on both monitors.

1. Open a web browser and go to activate.smallhd.com.

2. Enter the Activation Code you received with the purchase of your SmallHD Camera Control software in the Activate Camera Control section, then click Go (see image).


3. From the Settings menu on your SmallHD monitor, navigate to SYSTEM > LICENSES > ADD A LICENSE. In the upper right hand corner, you will see your Monitor Token (see image).

4. Return to the activation website and enter your Monitor Token. You will be prompted to make sure the token is entered correctly. Click Yes to continue.

5. Enter your monitor’s Serial Number in the field that appears and click Submit. Your monitor’s serial is located alongside a barcode on the input/output port area or on the battery plate.

6. Enter your name and the email where you want to receive your License Key. Click Send to receive your License Key.


INSTALL LICENSE

1. On the ADD A LICENSE page on your SmallHD monitor, enter your License Key and tap Activate (see image).


2. To add a Camera Control page, exit the Settings menu and swipe left until the “New Blank Page” screen appears, then select Camera Control from the apps list on the right (see image).



CONNECT AND POWER (TX)

1. Attach the TX adapter to the Bolt 4K LT transmitter, then secure the adapter to the unit using the included low profile socket screw (see image). Ensure the mounting hole and micro USB align with their corresponding terminals.

3. Connect the output from your video source to either the SDI or HDMI input on the transmitter. 

4. Connect the SDI output from the transmitter to the SDI input on the monitor. 

5. Connect your Smart7 dual USB hub port to the camera using the included CTRL cable.

6. Connect the 5pin lemo cable from the TX adapter to the Smart7 USB hub.

7. Connect power to the transmitter, monitor, and camera, then turn the power on.


ENABLE TX CAMERA CONTROL

1. Swipe right on the Smart7 monitor until the Settings screen appears, then confirm that TERADEK BOLT 4K is listed under the feed list on the left (see image). This indicates that the transmitter is communicating with the monitor. If TERADEK BOLT 4K is not listed, remove and reconnect the hubs.

NOTE: Before you proceed, ensure that your receiver is communicating with your Smart7 Monitor and that the Camera Control License installed for the camera you will be using.


2. Swipe left on the Smart7 monitor until the Camera Control page appears.

3. Enable Wireless Control so the TX and RX can communicate wirelessly (see image).


4. Select your camera from the list, then tap CONNECT (see image). Video appears within seconds.



CONNECT AND POWER (RX)

1. Attach a Camera Control USB adapter to the Bolt 4K LT receiver, then secure the adapter to the unit using the included low profile socket screw (see image). Ensure the mounting hole and micro USB align with their corresponding terminals.


2. Attach a dual USB hub to the Smart7 monitor, then secure it to the unit using the included socket screw (see image). Ensure the mounting hole and micro USB align with their corresponding terminals.


3. Connect either the SDI or HDMI output from the receiver to the video input on your monitor. 

4. Connect the 5pin lemo cable from the Bolt 4K RX USB adapter to the Smart7 USB Dual hub.

5. Connect power to the receiver and monitor, then turn the power on.


ENABLE RX CAMERA CONTROL

1. Swipe right on the Smart7 monitor until the Settings screen appears, then confirm that TERADEK BOLT 4K is listed on the left (see image). This indicates that the receiver is communicating with the monitor. If TERADEK BOLT 4K is not listed, remove and reconnect the hubs.

NOTE: Before you proceed, ensure that your receiver is communicating with your Smart7 Monitor.


2. Swipe left on the monitor until the Camera Control page appears. 

3. If the transmitter and receiver are paired, your camera should appear under the WIRELESS list. Select your camera from the list (see image), then tap CONNECT. Video appears within seconds.
