Configuring the Teradek Node for Sony ENG Camcorders

Updated on

Network Connectivity for Sony ENG Camcorders

The Teradek Node family can be configured to support the "cdc_ether" protocol used by Sony ENG camcorders. With the Teradek Node Manager for Windows, you can easily configure the Node to connect directly to the camcorder, providing internet access without needing an external router. The modem will keep its configuration as long as the same SIM card is used.

The Node modem also supports all streaming modes available on Sony camcorders, including streaming and uploading to the Sony C3 Portal.

Supported Modems

Teradek has tested the following Node modems with Sony Camcorders:

To configure the Node for use with Sony Camcorders:

  1. Install Teradek Node Manager on a Windows computer.
  2. Insert your SIM card into the modem:
    1. All new Nodes support a Nano SIM (4FF) with a single SIM slot and a built-in Teradek Data eSIM.
    2. Older Node II and Node II CBRS models support dual Standard SIMs (2FF) and are compatible with Teradek Data SIMs.
  3. Open the Node Manager, connect Node to your computer, and it will be automatically recognized.
  4. Select Node Configuration and set the Device Compatibility Mode to Ethernet Mode. The modem will restart and be ready to use with Sony camcorders once connected to a cellular network.

MultiPath Streaming

Sony camcorders support MultiPath streaming to the Sony C3 Portal using two Nodes , each with separate IP configurations on subnets 192.168.224.x and 192.168.225.x. To configure the Nodes with different IP addresses, open Node Configuration and select the appropriate IP Address Range.

Supported Carriers and SIMs

The Node product line is generally compatible with most carriers, provided it is correctly configured and the appropriate APN is entered. In many cases, the modem automatically loads a carrier profile (called an MBN profile) or applies an APN based on its interaction with the carrier. For advanced assistance, contact [email protected].

Node products cannot use SIM PINs or user authentication in Ethernet Mode, as the modem cannot independently store these credentials.

Setting an APN

When you insert a SIM card, the modem will display the APN provided by the network in the APN field. If your network requires a different APN or if an incorrect APN appears, you can replace it with the correct one.

MBN Profiles

An MBN Profile is a carrier configuration for "Home Network" carriers that loads automatically. Our chipset manufacturer has worked directly with these carriers to ensure the modems function correctly and are enhanced for optimal performance. Consequently, the modems can operate seamlessly even in complex environments.

Locking or disabling MBN profiles can cause connectivity issues with certain carriers. If you are unsure about how to make these changes, please contact [email protected].

Carrier Lock

Node modems support registration using your carrier's PLMN code (a combination of MCC and MNC numbers), which represents a "Carrier Number." This feature allows you to lock registration to a specific carrier, which is especially useful for multi-carrier SIMs. You can find your carrier's PLMN code here. Note that setting a registration will force the modem to connect to that carrier every time.

Carrier locking can be useful for troubleshooting SIM card connectivity or forcing the modem to connect to a specific carrier. However, if the network is unavailable on a multi-carrier SIM and carrier lock is enabled, the modem will not switch networks.

Teradek Data

The eSIM inside specific Node products is part of the Teradek Standard Data family and can be activated in most locations worldwide. To activate the eSIM and purchase a plan, contact [email protected].
