Node 5G Quick Start Guide

Updated on

Boost your production capabilities with the new Node 5G cellular modem. Node 5G offers the latest sub-6GHz frequencies with global coverage, ensuring seamless connectivity worldwide. Thanks to its external high-gain antennas, the Node 5G takes your connectivity experience to a whole new level.

Now, for the first time in Teradek Products, you can enjoy embedded eSIM connectivity with Teradek Data. This feature allows you to profile your eSIM on both Native and Multi-Carrier plans, providing seamless and flexible connectivity options.

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES

WHAT'S INCLUDED

1x  Node 5G Module assembly
4x  3G/4G Long Multi-band SMA antenna
4x  Penta Straight Short Multi-band SMA antenna
1x  5-pin to USB Type A connector cable or 5-pin to USB-C connector cable - 12in

ASSEMBLY AND POWER

Node 5G powers up and connects to the cellular network automatically when connected to a Teradek device.

  1. Attach the antennas (either compact or high gain) to Node 5G’s SMA connectors (E).
  2. Physical SIM: Detach the SIM cover plate and insert a SIM card into the slot (C). Close the cover plate and screw it back in place when you’re done.
    eSIM: Skip this step.
  3. Attach the 5-pin to 5-pin/USB locking connector cable to Node 5G by aligning the red dots on both the connector and Node's receptacle, then push the connector in to lock it in place.
  4. Connect the Node 5G to a Teradek device using the included 5-pin to 5-pin/USB connector cable.
  5. Verify that the Power (A) and Network (B) indicators are illuminated.
  6. From your Teradek device’s web UI, navigate to the Network menu and select the corresponding USB (Node 5G) modem. Ensure that all the fields (Manufacturer, Model, Carrier, etc.) are populated (see image below).
  7. To remove the 5-pin to 5-pin/USB locking connector from Node 5G, grasp the connector's outer shell and pull it down to disengage the locking mechanism.

DO NOT attempt to disconnect the plug by pulling on the cable or twisting the connector in any way. Doing so will damage or break the contacts.

NOTE: Node 5G supports most providers' SIM cards and can operate on most LTE and 5G data bands. With dual SIMs, you can swap from one provider to another without unplugging the Node 5G. Only one SIM card can be used at a time.

TERADEK DATA SIM CARDS

Node devices are compatible with Teradek Data SIM cards and also have a Teradek Data eSIM built in. Teradek Data eSIM cards provide high-speed native and multi-carrier coverage with  automatic network switching so you always have the best connection at any location.

ACTIVATING YOUR eSIM

The Node 5G comes equipped with an eSIM, enabling convenient deployment of Teradek Standard Data without the need for a physical SIM card in various global locations. Deploying in different countries may lead to varying costs.

Currently, we handle the activation process manually, requiring the purchase of a Teradek Data bucket. To activate the eSIM:

  1. Visit the Teradek Data website.
  2. Click Activate My ESIM.
  3. Expect a response from our team shortly after.

To locate the necessary EID, simply plug the Node 5G into a Prism and select "eSIM" for the slot configuration.

Ensure that the modem is live for eSIM activation, and there might be a request to restart it twice to complete the activation of the new profile.

Auto Carrier

Auto Carrier Mode is great for Native Carrier sims or multicarrier nodes

1. Activate your eSIM by contacting Teradek
2. From the web UI, navigate to the Network menu and select the corresponding Modem.
3. Click eSIM
4. Click the Teradek Data checkbox, then select Auto Carrier.

Carrier Lock

1. If you haven't already,  Activate your eSIM by contacting Teradek - [email protected]
2. From the web UI, navigate to the Network menu and select the corresponding Modem.
3. Click eSIM
4. Click the Teradek Data checkbox, then select Carrier Lock.

5. Select the SIM and Carrier type.
