Teradek User Guide

Encoder/Decoder Configuration

Updated on

Use the following instructions to configure your decoder to connect and pull or receive streams from an encoder.

ART units have two connection types: Server and Client. When the connection type is set to Server, the encoder waits for the decoder to connect and pull the stream from it. When the connection type is set to Client, the encoder pushes video to a single destination IP address on a specific port.

You can also configure your system to stream via Core, Teradek's cloud management and routing service. Refer to the Core section for instructions on how to connect to Core.

Server Mode:

  1. Open both the encoder and decoder web UI and navigate to Stream Settings.
  2. On the encoder web UI, disable Client mode and enable Server mode, then set the listening port to 9801 (default). On the decoder web UI, enable Client mode, enter the encoder's IP address, then set the Server port to 9801 (default). Click Save on both interfaces when done.

Client Mode:

  1. Open both the encoder and decoder web UI and navigate to Stream Settings.
  2. On the encoder web UI, enable Client mode and disable Server mode, then enter the decoder's IP address and server port 9801 (default). On the decoder web UI, switch to Server mode, enter the encoder's IP address, then set the Server port to 9801 (default). Click Save on both interfaces when done.
