ARRI Camera Control Setup

Updated on

Configuring ARRI cameras for camera control involves 2 things, setting up the camera's Wi-Fi and Camera Access Protocol server, and connecting your CTRL.5 to the camera.

Start by configuring CTRL.5's Wi-Fi in either Access Point or Client mode, as described in the Wi-Fi Setup for Camera Control guide.

Configure your camera

The following instructions were created using ALEXA Mini-LF, and may vary slightly between cameras.

  1. Go to Menu -> Network -> Wi-Fi. From there, do the following:
    • Turn Wi-Fi On
    • Connect to same network as your CTRL.5 (e.g., CTRL.5-00056 if CTRL.5 is in AP mode)
    • Wait for connection to complete
  2. After connecting, get the camera's IP Address
    • Open the Info menu
    • Navigate to Network info
    • Note the Wi-Fi IP address
  3. Enable and configure Camera Access Protocol (CAP)
    • Open the menu and navigate to System -> Camera Access Protocol (CAP)
    • Select CAP server enabled and verify the box is checked.
    • Configure the CAP server password. You will need this when configuring CTRL.5

Configure CTRL.5

  1. Navigate to Settings -> CAMERA
  2. Set WIFI Camera Brand to ARRI
  3. Enter the ARRI camera’s IP in the Camera IP field (from step 2 of the camera configuration)
  4. Enter the password configured in step 3 of the camera configuration

If the connection is successful, the status indicator will turn green and show 'Camera Connected,' you can then open the camera dashboard to control your camera.

Supported Cameras

  • ALEXA 35
  • ALEXA Mini-LF
  • ALEXA Mini
  • ALEXA LF
  • ALEXA 65
  • ALEXA SXT
  • AMIRA

All of the above models support Wi-Fi connectivity and remote camera control via CAP over IP, which the CTRL.5 is compatible with.

Additional Notes

  • Ensure the camera and CTRL.5 are on the same subnet if using a router setup.
  • For improved reliability, ensure the Wi-Fi signal strength is strong and minimize interference.
  • Some network settings may vary slightly by firmware version—always refer to the latest ARRI camera manual for exact menu locations.
