Configuring Wi-Fi for Camera Control on the CTRL.5
There are two common network setups to connect your CTRL.5 with WiFi-based camera control: Access Point Mode and Client Mode. The instructions below detail how to configure CTRL.5’s wi-fi for use with either mode.
- Navigate to Settings → Wi-Fi on the CTRL.5
- You can choose to either connect CTRL.5 to a wi-fi network, or set up its built-in access point
Connecting CTRL.5 to Your Router
- Set Wi-Fi mode to Client
- From the available Wi-Fi networks list, select your router’s Wi-Fi network
- Enter the network password if prompted
- Confirm the CTRL.5 connects successfully to the router
- Check the IP address assigned to the CTRL.5 (usually displayed in Settings → Wi-Fi or Network Info)
- Make sure the CTRL.5 is on the same subnet as your camera or other devices intended for control
Configuring CTRL.5 in AP mode
- Set Wi-Fi mode to AP
- Configure a network name (SSID) if desired, the default name is CTRL5-XXXXX where XXXXX is the last 5 digits of your serial number
- Configure the Wi-Fi channel, if desired. For camera control you may want to set it to Auto (2.4GHz only) as some cameras only work with 2.4GHz wi-fi
- Configure WPA security and a password, if desired.
Additional Configuration
Refer to the Camera connection articles for information on how to configure your camera. Once your camera is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as CTRL.5 you can find its IP address and use that to connect for camera control.
- On CTRL.5, go to Settings → Camera.
- Select the camera brand you want to use under WIFI CAMERA
- Enter the camera’s IP address in the IP field.
- Input any necessary authentication credentials or passwords required by your camera control system.
- Establish Camera Control Connection:
- On CTRL.5, initiate the connection to the camera by tapping connect
- If the connection succeeds the status will change to ‘Connected’ with a green dot.
Tips to avoid Wi-Fi connectivity issues
- Use a WiFi router with stable signal strength and preferably on a less congested channel.
- Ensure your camera supports the Wi-Fi channels you want to use for camera control.
- CTRL.5 (and all cameras we’re aware of) are not compatible with networks that require captive portal or other sign-in mechanisms.
- Check for firewall or network isolation settings on the router that could block device communication.
